Home Health Program

Home Health Program

This program covers Marquette County, Adams County, and southern Waushara County.

Home health is medical care in the form of skilled nursing services, physical therapy services, occupational therapy services, speech therapy, and nurse aide services for people who are living at home.  Elderly and physically disabled people may qualify for this service with an order from their physician.  These services are provided in the person’s home, in situations requiring rehabilitation from serious injury, major surgery, or other medical traumas.  This service is also provided to elderly people whose physical health is declining, in lieu of nursing home placement.  Home health care reduces time in the hospital, or nursing home, and provides care to people who need rather intensive services for several weeks to several months to recover from the illness or injury that caused their debilitation.  Medical social work is also an important part of this program, for people who have complex social or environmental problems.

Home health care is a benefit of the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs, and is also a benefit paid by most private insurance companies.  This is a highly regulated industry.  The program is licensed by the State of Wisconsin through an annual on-site review.  To operate this program, we are required to have a board of advisors from the community, which includes physicians.  Also, we have to submit a financial statement to the federal government annually.  In Marquette County, the new Family Care Program pays for this service if the person has Medicaid.
